Philippines Takes on the World July 30 at Araneta Coliseum; Lucky Fan to Win P1 M :

There are only a few things better than seeing local fighters duke it out with foreign opponents. On July 30, we are in for a special treat as Las Vegas-based promotion, World Series of Fighting Global Championship, hits the Smart Araneta Coliseum for WSOF-GC 3.

The event features some of the country’s best against fighters from different parts of the world, with a highly anticipated main event for the World Heavyweight Title between a Russian police officer and an American police officer. Thanks to WSOF-GC owner Dunessa Hesser, homegrown fighters like former boxing champion Jujeath Nagaowa, knockout artist Mario Sismundo, and UGB mainstays Jenelyn Olsim and Jessdan Dela Pena, are seeing action.
“We have been focusing a lot of our efforts in early 2016 working with our affiliates in eleven countries on six continents. We continue to build that program successfully. UGB-MMA Philippines was our very first affiliate and paved the way for others. It just makes sense that Philippines would be the right market for us to put on our next big event,” she noted.
In the main event, six-foot-one, 230-pound Russian,Evgeny Erokhin (14-4) defends his heavyweight strap from American Richard “The Black Eagle”Odoms (11-2), who stands six-foot-five and walks around at 300 pounds. Erokhin, though, is no stranger to tough competition. Riding on a nine-fight KO/TKO winning run, he has an impressive list of victims that includes Jeff Monson, Brett Rogers, Mike Kyle, and Tim Hague. Odoms, on the other hand, is on a three-fight winning streak and is fresh out of a crushing knee-to-the-head finish of Japan’s Yusuke Kawaguchi in the first round.
“When you talk about David and Goliath stories, rarely is the champion playing the role of David, but that’s the case here,” said Jason Lilly, Vice President of Operations and Matchmaker for WSOF-GC. “This should be a ground-shaking, exciting main event. When you add in the intriguing storyline of Russian cop versus American cop, it’s almost like something out of an action movie.”
Tickets are available at the Smart Araneta box office, Ticketnet.com.ph, and all SM Ticketnet outlets. Fans have a chance to go home with P1 million in cash. For more information, visit https://www.wsofgc.com/ or search for UGM MMA on Facebook.
